Floor Exercise

This event is performed on a 40ftx40ft spring floor. These routines last anywhere from a minute to a minute and a half. Gymnasts compete multiple tumbling passes. These routines usually include at least one front and one back tumbling pass. The passes can include roundoffs, handsprings, saltos and twists, front and back. There can be both front and back tumbling in one pass. Floor also includes stationary skills such as handstands, rolls, and splits. To see a full floor routine click here.

Pommel Horse

This event is considered one of the most difficult to compete in. The routine requires the gymnast to have continuous circular, scissor, and handstand movements on an apparatus that is 13.8in wide, 5.25ft long, and 3.8ft tall. To see a full pommel horse routine click here.

Rings

This event showcases the poise, positioning, and strength of the gymnast. Gymnasts mount the rings, and take a few swings between positions, but this event is mainly holding different positions for certain periods of time. The dismount is usually a simple salto. Vault

This event is very quick and is over in a few seconds. The gymnast runs down a runway and bounces off a springboard, over a table about 3ft wide and 3.5ft long at varying heights. The entry onto and off the table is different with every gymnast and may include twists, saltos, and handsprings, front and back. To see a full vault routine click here.

Parallel Bars

This event consists mostly of swing and flight elements. The gymnast should not stop or hold a move more than three times during the routine. The gymnast is required to execute swinging elements from a support, hang and upper arm position. To see a full parallel bars routine click here.

High Bar

This event consists of swings, release moves and high-flying dismounts on a 9ft high bar. During the routine, the gymnast must execute a series of continuous swings and turns and at least one move in which the gymnast releases and re-grasps the bar. He also must perform at least one element in el-grip, dorsal hang or rearways to the bar. To see a full high bar routine click here.
